Is Brett Kavanaugh a Legitimate Supreme Court Justice?

When Justice Kennedy retired, Trump nominated a controversial man by the name of Brett Kavanaugh to replace him on the Supreme Court. When hearings began in the senate, and he was accused of sexual assault by Christine Blasey Ford, I was hopeful that he would not be confirmed. He lacks the intelligence, dignity, and moral compass to receive a lifetime appointment to our country’s highest court.

It is the responsibility of the FBI to thoroughly vet nominees for the Court. When in the United States Air Force, I was carefully screened. My training required a top secret clearance. I found out later that they investigated my life from elementary school until the time I was in ‘tech school’ at Lackland AFB. New information from the FBI reveals that it performed only a cursory investigation into these allegations. In addition, no action at all was taken when more than 4,500 tips were received from the public. These tips were passed on to the White House Counsel. There is no information whether or not any of these tips were investigated.

After Ms. Ford accused him of sexual assault, it has been confirmed that the FBI spent just four days attempting to learn if the allegation was true or false.

The question is,” is Kavanaugh a legitimate member of the SCOTUS? Why is this important to you?

The perfect answer was revealed last week when the Court refused to strike down the most blatantly unconstitutional law I have ever read. Texas’ Republicans made it virtually impossible for a woman to receive a legal abortion in the Lone Star State.

Today, the SCOTUS has been “stacked.” There are six conservative-leaning justices, and only three who are considered more progressive. Chief Justice, John Roberts, sided with progressives. Thomas, Alito, Gorsuch, Barrett, and Kavanaugh refused to make any decision which would have halted the implementation of the Texas law.

Personally, I began to worry about the future of the Court and its ability to function as a neutral body, making decisions based solely on the Constitution, in 2016. In February of that year, Justice Antonin Scalia suddenly passed away. President Obama nominated Judge Merrick Garland. He was considered to be a moderate, and was well known and respected by both Democrats and Republicans. However, Moscow Mitch McConnell, who was then the Senate Majority Leader, refused to hold hearings as required by the Constitution. This offered proof that Republicans in name only would attempt to stack the court in their party’s favor.

Today’s Court does not resemble the institution designed by our founding fathers. The Judicial Branch was intended to be apolitical. It is far from that today.
