I was born in Lewiston, Idaho in 1946. In 1952 my parents, maternal grandparents, and one Uncle moved to Los Angeles, California where jobs were plentiful. I have always been grateful for their decision, but never more than today.
Idaho is a very red state. Its population is composed of Christians, mostly Catholic or Latter Day Saints, and skinheads who fallaciously claim to be Christian.
Because the Republican governor and his right-wing dominated legislature support Trump, wearing masks was never a priority, and it has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the nation. Today the state is in a state of emergency.
Hospitals are overfull, and have been ordered to implement the Crisis Standards of Care Plan which, in simple terms, allows 10 hospitals and health care systems in the northern and central parts of Idaho to ration health care, as reported by the Associated Press. There are move Covid-19 cases than they can handle.
It is a fact that in states where the vaccination rate is high, and wearing facemasks in public areas is mandatory, the number of new cases are far fewer than in states whose leadership is disinterested in the health and welfare of its people.
For thousands of right-wing politicians Trump is more important than the people of our nation.
