Although he claims the title, William Barr is not the Attorney General of the United States of America. He is Trump’s personal errand boy.
Duties of the Attorney General: “The principal duties of the Attorney General are to: Represent the United States in legal matters. Supervise and direct the administration and operation of the offices, boards, divisions, and bureaus that comprise the Department.”
I didn’t read one word in that mission statement which included “acting as the personal attorney of the president, or performing his demands at the snap of a finger.”
Barr’s latest abuse of power is to appoint yet another “special investigator.” This time is the same as the last time. Another Trump stooge will be investigating a conspiracy theory, not anything which resembles a crime. President Obama’s administration was doing its job by “unmasking” crimes, and possible collusion with foreign agents. However, because many of Trump’s closest associates were unmasked by the FBI and other members of the Department of Justice, Trump is desperate to misdirect the level of corruption in his administration.
A cabinet member can be impeached, and Democrats are taking steps to do just that.
“No attorney general has ever been impeached,” Michael Gerhardt, a constitutional law professor at the University of North Carolina, told Newsweek.
“The process for impeaching an attorney general for misconduct is nearly as difficult as it is for the president. With the president, however, elections can also serve as checks. There is no analogue for that with a Cabinet member,” he added.
No one can question the fact that Trump’s administration is the most corrupt in American history. Criminal charges, firings, and resignations have been too numerous to name or count. The West Wing echoes from the number of empty offices.
If only there were two more vacancies, our nation could begin healing: the office of the Attorney General in the Department of Justice, and the Oval Office. Trump was impeached and should not be allowed to remain in the White House where he continues to violate the Constitution.
