Fact: Trump ignored the danger of the coronavirus for at least two-and-one-half months. He claimed it would “go away,” and that his administration was “well prepared,” and it “wouldn’t affect America as it did other nations.” Every word was a lie. He and his incompetent administration didn’t know what to do and refused to listen to the advice of the World Health Organization and our own Center for Disease Control, although a Presidents Daily Brief in November of 2019 warned the orange failure of a possible health emergency in 2020.
Today at least one-and-one-half million Americans have been infected and nearly 100,000 deaths are the result of Covid-19. America leads the world in both categories.
A recent study of the facts “estimates that 50,000 of the nearly 100,000 American deaths from COVID-19 could have been avoided had the United States begun widespread social distancing measures just one week earlier.”
Trump’s failure to lead our nation during a crisis is unforgivable, proving that he is unfit to be in his position. If governors of many states had not acted, both the number of cases and deaths would have been much bigger.
Think about a few facts. Before this pandemic subsides, more American lives will have been lost than the total in the Korean conflict, 33,686, the Vietnam War, 58,000, and the illegal wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, more than 7,000. American forces remain in situations where lives are lost in Afghanistan.
This situation was preventable. However, without competent leadership from Washington, every measure to slow the spread of Covid-19 and reduce the number of deaths resulting from the virus was too little and too late. This was the one time, the one challenge which offered Trump an opportunity to become ‘presidential.’ He not only failed, he is responsible for the lives of tens of thousands of our nation’s people.
A real president would be lamenting the number of lives lost, and displaying compassion for their families, Trump is more interested in corporate profits; he has no concern for the American people. Disgusting and unforgivable.
