Will there be Two Republican Candidates on November 3rd?

It has often been said that today’s moderate Democrats are in fact the Republicans of four decades past. This is absolutely true. For more than 30 years both parties moved to the right. Most Republicans have moved so far away from center they have abandoned the principles and ideals of the GOP and become what they identify with, a form of fascism. They call themselves the “TEA Party,” or the “Freedom Caucus,” but these terms fail to define their true beliefs.

Democrats have moved away from their liberal/progressive beliefs and become the Republicans who shared a party with past GOP presidents.

Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren renewed my faith in the Democratic Party. They are forward thinking and in touch with the needs and wishes of the American people in the 21st century. They understand that people must take precedence over profits if our nation is to survive.

Dwight D. Eisenhower warned of the current growth of the military industrial complex. Past great Americans, beginning with Thomas Jefferson, warned of unbridled capitalism, pointing directly at today’s Wall Street banks. Unrestricted capitalism and a government controlled by corporate America place the working class in a position where they must beg for their rights.

My great fear for my country began on November 9, 2016. A man who is not capable, who lacks sufficient intelligence, has no moral compass, and is not loyal to his country was given the title of President of the United States. As November 3, 2020 approaches, I fear that the American people will not have a Democrat as one of their choices when they go to the polls. Joe Biden’s ideas are regressive; he is more of a 1970’s Republican than a Democrat. Trump will be 74 on election day; Biden will be 78 just 17 days after the election. Both men live in the past and are unfit to lead a nation which averages 38.1 years of age.

The truth is that it is highly likely that both names on the ballot in November will belong to Republicans, although Trump is not a member of the party of Lincoln.

Biden is not my first, second, or even third choice to lead America, but he is far superior to the alternative. Trump is not an American; he is a capitalist. The truth is, today’s Republicans in name only are the new “Trump Party;” a party which serves plutocrats and whose values lean so far right they have become fascists.

I have not given up on Bernie, but he is fighting an uphill battle. The mainstream media, the right wing, and more than one-half of his own party are fearful of a candidate who believes in real change. They do not believe that his proposals, which are similar to those of FDR, will be supported by most Americans. They are very mistaken.

The two most important groups in America today are women and millennials. Both groups are ‘people oriented,’ and progressive. The candidate who is supported by the group which composes 51 percent of our nation’s people and the largest voting bloc can win any election.

Finally, the United States is the only developed nation in the world without healthcare for all, paid leave for both men and woman after their birth of a child, and free or affordable education for everyone who wants it. It’s time for America to grow up. It is the responsibility of every citizen to be informed. If mistakes like Donald Trump continue to be the norm, our nation will become a memory and the Constitution will be shredded and forgotten.

Currently the executive branch, the senate, and the Supreme Court are in the control of men and women who refuse to keep their oaths of office. They pick and choose which parts of the Constitution to support and they do not represent or support the majority of the American people.
