Both Republicans and Democrats are Scared to Death about Growing Support for Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren’s Progressive Agenda

First, the truth. The 2020 election is taking place in the 21st century, not the 1960’s, 70’s, 80’s, or 90’s. “Times change” is the old cliché, but the truth is that people change. In July the United States of America will only be 244 years old. People grow and change faster than nations and twice as fast as governments.

After the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt America began a path to more conservative and less liberal ideas. The working man and woman were gradually left behind and unrestrained capitalism created more millionaires and even billionaires. However, the super-rich continued to pay their fair share of taxes until 1980 when Ronald Reagan adopted a policy of “supply side economics,” better known as “trickle down economics.” When he took office the maximum tax rate for wealthiest Americans was 70 percent. By the end of 1981 it was reduced to 50 percent. On this day, February 18, 2020, the maximum tax rate is 37 percent. Between 1980 and 2020, that is a decrease of 33 percent.

Prior to 1980 a corporation or a small business was considered successful if the year’s end profit was between 30 and 33 percent. Today major corporations and large businesses report net earnings of 300, 400, 500 percent or more. Many of these for-profit enterprises paid little or no taxes in 2019, including Amazon and Wal Mart.

When Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Tom Steyer, and other progressive Democrats and Independents speak about the rich ‘paying their fair share,’ this is what they are talking about.

When Trump reduced the maximum corporate tax rate from 33 percent to 21 percent, it was inevitable that the national deficit would rise. In 2019 an increase of 1.2 trillion dollars sounded alarms for qualified and experienced economists. Another recession and a stock market crash appear inevitable.

In 2015 Bernie Sanders began discussing the possibility of changing our nation’s economic policy from pure capitalism to a form of ‘democratic socialism.’ Old, useless politicians felt their heads explode. The truth is that capitalism has failed the majority. Only the 704 billionaires and 18.6 million millionaires in our nation enjoy the American lifestyle in the 21st century.

Both Democrats and Republican politicians are ranting about the word ‘socialism.’ The truth is that democratic socialism would be a return to the principles of our nation’s economy prior to the late 20th century. The expectations of both the government and the working class was that everyone would share in the success of business enterprises large and small. Most of you are too young to remember the premise that ‘it was possible to begin in the mailroom and over time become the Chairman of the Board of Directors.’ This is a laughable fairytale today.

The truth is that socialism is already a part of America’s democracy. Tax breaks for businesses whose products or efforts which assist our nation in its goals for the future are socialist ideas. Every tax exemption is socialism. Social Security is socialism. Tax exemptions for child care, donations to charities, and alimony payments are socialism.

Here are the facts which frighten the old white capitalists who control our nation’s future today. Millennials are the largest voting bloc in America. The great majority of these young men and women support Bernie’s ideas. Secondly, women compose 51 percent of our nation’s population and more than 50 percent of all women place social issues in priority number one and believe that capitalism has failed, and failed drastically. Income inequality continues to be the primary reason for the end of the middle class and the growth of poverty, and low-income Americans today.

Trump’s illegitimate presidency made the current situation worse than that was three years ago.

My state of Nevada will hold its caucus on February 22nd. If Bernie wins on that day, and South Carolina the following week, he will have the momentum which will likely carry him through ‘Super Tuesday’ on March 3rd. On March 4th he could become unbeatable, on his way to the Democratic nomination.

Mike Bloomberg and Joe Biden have become desperate. They are paying for ‘attack ads’ against Bernie and his supporters. They are ignorant and fail to realize that Bernie’s “army” consists of nearly one-half of the American people.

Wall Street is attempting its own lies about Bernie. They fear that their bloated fortunes would be forced to stagnate at what will remain an undeserved level of wealth. The American worker would be paid a fair wage and their benefits would result in a secure future. Every American would have healthcare and education would become a right and not a privilege. The dream of our founding fathers would be realized.

The Republican Party has become our enemy. Let’s save our nation on November 3rd.
