Today, January 31, 2020, the Republican Party decided that their illegitimate president is above the law; not responsible for “preserving, protecting, and defending the Constitution of the United States of America.” The oath of office means nothing. One political party violated the most important precept of our founding fathers. In 1787 they constructed a government which had three separate but equal branches for a very important reason. They refused to allow any man to become a king; an autocrat; and gave certain powers to the legislative branch to guarantee that would never happen. Today Moscow Mitch McConnell and his cowardly and hypocritical party gave Trump unrestricted power. He was judged to be above the Law of the Land and therefore a king, a dictator, a fuhrer, or whatever label you choose to give the worst man in the world.
I’m not a politician so I can tell the truth. Born in 1946, I learned to love my country. My heart raced every day as school began and we stood to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. At events where it was appropriate to play and sing our national anthem tears welled in my eyes. However, as I grew older, learned our country’s history, and entered the working world, I discovered that this young country needed to simply “grow up.” The United States has serious issues and has never been a great country, although our people show “greatness” in times of crisis. Our government has failed us more often than doing its job to address our needs and wishes.
Today, on this last day of January, America has reached its greatest crisis in its nearly 244-year history. Sadly, it’s a Constitutional crisis, and if our nation is not returned to its former condition very soon, it will completely cease to exist.
On this day Trump and the Trump Party, led by Moscow Mitch, spit on the Constitution. Today a party of cowards and hypocrites crowned a monarch who will create laws which serve him, but will not be required to obey the Law of the Land himself.
Without every American receiving equal treatment as guaranteed by the Constitution, there is no United States. We will be a nation forever divided between those who choose to live in the past and serve their ruler, and those such as myself who remember the country which made us proud to say, “I am an American” and hope to bravely move forward into the 21st century; joining other developed nations.
Trump will never be my president, and although I will retain the title of an Independent forever, I will never be able to vote for any man or woman who calls his or herself a Republican again.
This current disaster which happened in the senate chambers today will forever prevent America from becoming great. Racism, bigotry, Islamophobia, homophobia, misogyny, and xenophobia will thrive among 40 percent of all Americans as long as the leader of white supremacy in America defiles our nation’s White House.
On November 9, 2016 I was as sad as I have ever been in my life. Not only had forward thinking Americans lost an election, our country began to die. Today I believe it may have been diagnosed as terminal.
