999 hundred times out of 1,000, hiding something proves that you are guilty. Your illegitimate president has hidden his tax returns; obstructed justice by preventing witnesses to testify at his impeachment hearings; and now, with the assistance of Moscow Mitch McConnell, is attempting to prevent any testimony at his senate trial.
A few days ago, former security adviser John Bolton said that he would be willing to testify if subpoenaed. This sent Trump into a rage and gave Moscow Mitch an anxiety attack.
Trump announced immediately that he would prevent Bolton from testifying using his “executive privilege.” Once again, Trump knows nothing about the workings of our government; continuing to believe he is ruling a monarchy.
While appearing on MSNBC Saturday, former federal prosecutor Cynthia Alksne confirmed that Trump cannot prevent testimony at his own trial by invoking ‘executive privilege.’ Host Geoff Bennett asked her to explain the details.
“Well, the first thing we know is that all of the talk that the president had for so long about he’d love to have Bolton testify — that was not true, that was a lie, number one,” Alksne replied. “Number two, the White House has used this notion of executive privilege or some kind of absolute immunity to try to get people not to come at all, not to even sit in the chair and have to face the questions. The idea with executive privilege is we want to protect important discussions between members of the executive about matters of policy so that a person would come, sit in the chair, be asked a question. If it had to do with a real policy issue, then the question could be blocked.”
“But there are limits to executive privilege,” she continued. “For instance, you can’t use executive privilege to cover up a crime, and what we have here is extortion, and so executive privilege does not apply to the questions about the Ukraine extortion.”
Trump must learn what the definition of ‘democracy’ entails. He is not above the law, and executive privilege is not a protection without limitations.
“It doesn’t also apply to people who are outside the executive branch, so conversations with [Rudy] Giuliani, conversations he had with Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman, what they were going to do to extort Zelensky, none of that is covered by executive privilege,” she added.
This should help you understand why Moscow Mitch is so desperate to prevent testimony from anyone. Trump’s crimes are numerous and multiple members of his administration know the facts. A fair trial in the senate would expose far greater misdeeds by the orange man-child than those revealed during his impeachment.
Trump, Moscow Mitch, Graham, and other desperate right-wing politicians are traitors to the Constitution; our nation’s rule of law. Every Republican in name only lied when he or she took their oath of office and promised to “preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.” Impeachment and the reasons to remove a sitting president are clearly written in article two of the “law of the land.”
My advice to every member of the GOP is, “read the Constitution” and “learn how to do your job.”
