Trump Administration Escalates its War on Women, Ending the Hopes of Millions of Women for an Equal Rights Amendment

Women's Rights

“We conclude that Congress had the constitutional authority to impose a deadline on the ratification of the ERA and, because that deadline has expired, the ERA Resolution is no longer pending before the States,” the OLC said in an opinion released Wednesday.

The former is a statement from William Barr’s Department of Justice’ Office of Legal Counsel. Once again, the right-wing escalates its war against women in their attempts to restrict and ignore the Constitutional rights of all women. Old, white men who claim to be ‘Republicans’ are desperate to maintain their control of America’s dominant population.

This situation should have ended years ago, but thanks to Republicans, women have been relegated to second-class citizenship for hundreds of years. It’s time for real change, and here’s the way to do it; it’s all up to two groups of voters.

Women compose 51 percent of America’s population. However, the stronger and wiser sex comprises only 23.2 percent of the House, and 25 percent of the Senate. This is absurd.

The 2018 midterms resulted in more women elected to government at all levels than from any other election in history. I call it a ‘beginning.’ Until our government is at least 50 percent female, the American people are not accurately represented.

Baby boomers are no longer the largest voting bloc in America. This ‘honor’ belongs to millennials. However, only 2.1 percent of congress is composed of men and women under the age of 35. The average age of all Americans is 38.1 years of age. Old, white, right-wing extremists continue to control our government. Until younger Americans are the majority, Washington will not be representative of today’s America. Maybe young Americans don’t understand that the age minimum for the House is 25 and for the Senate, 30.

Electing more women to government is Republican’s greatest fear. If women gained control of Washington, wars would be less likely. The Pentagon would become accountable for their wasteful spending. People would become the priority over profits for corporations. All Americans would have access to the best healthcare available. Education would once again become our nation’s priority, and the cost would be minimal or free for every American who wants it. Women would have equal rights with men, including the right to choose the mental and physical health of their own bodies.

Republicans oppose all those issues, although the vast majority of Americans support every one of them.

I will vote for any woman on my ballot who supports most of the issues I believe are necessary to take America bravely into the 21st century. We must stop the backwards policies which exist in Washington today.
