Joe Lieberman is another old, white politician whose time is past. He is out of touch with a younger and more progressive America. Lieberman is 76; Ocasio Cortez is 29. The average age of all Americans is 37.8 years of age.
I and many other Independents and Democrats believe that Ms. Ocasio-Cortez represents the future of the Democratic Party. Lieberman, living in the past, does not agree.
“She just takes us back to the big-spending, big-taxing Democratic Party, and the Democratic Party is not going to succeed that way,” Lieberman told Fox News Channel’s Maria Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures.”
Let’s us break down the errors in his statement. The term “big spending” must refer to healthcare and education. She has proposed nothing else, and nothing which could be considered ‘wasteful spending.’ “Big taxing?” If that refers to Lieberman and his fellow millionaires and billionaires paying their fair share, then I say, ‘go for it.’ Allowing the military and other failed agencies to waste billions of dollars every year must end. American government must once again serve all of our nation’s people. The Democratic Party has failed because it has moved too far to the right. Various voting blocs will no longer accept words which have no meaning. Democrats must support minorities, the LGBTQ community, women, and the Constitutional rights of all men and women to practice the religion of their choice with actions and not ‘hot air.’
Ocasio-Cortez is a self-proclaimed ‘democratic socialist;’ Liberman is a devoted capitalist. Capitalism has failed most Americans. This is how Lieberman responded when she was referred to as the future of the Democratic Party.
Lieberman appeared on Fox Business last Thursday and told host Neil Cavuto, “With all respect, I certainly hope she’s not the future and I don’t believe she is.”
Once again Lieberman demonstrates why he is the past and should have retired more than a decade ago.
At 72-years-of-age I remain wise enough to know that America’s future will be decided by much younger men and women. Lieberman is a perfect example of why I would not vote for Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, or Elizabeth Warren. I admire each of them and supported Bernie Sanders in 2016. However, in 2020 I will not vote for any candidate over the age of 60, and I prefer a woman if she supports my beliefs. If you believe that I’m mistaken, look at a single fact. Trump is three-weeks older than I am. He has failed the American people and continues to move our nation backwards. Never forget that his silly red hats actually meant “Make America White Again.”
