Planning to Fly in the Near Future? You won’t get there On-Time, and Possibly on a Different Flight

airport security

If you are not a government employee, you probably didn’t think that Trump’s Shutdown would affect you. It will, in multiple ways, but the most obvious will be to Americans who intend to travel on commercial airlines.

TSA jobs are relatively low-paying, and now they are being forced to work without any compensation. Hundreds have called in sick; and some are already looking for other employment.

Airports are already planning for a lesser number of TSA agents. Several security checkpoints will be closing. Miami is planning to close an entire concourse. These are just the beginnings of what could become long delays and possibly flight cancellations at every major airport in the nation.

Christopher Bidwell, a senior vice president at the Airports Council International-North America in Washington had this to say:

“We’re very concerned that the current situation with government employees going without pay is unsustainable in the long term,” Bidwell said. “We certainly have to be mindful of the potential for cascading operational impacts.”

A spokesman for the TSA, Michael Billello, offered the following in a tweet:

“In an effort to optimize resources without degrading screening and security effectiveness, where it is feasible, TSA is working with key stakeholders and industry partners to explore efforts to consolidate officers and operations.”

Issues which are not being addressed include rents, mortgages, medical supplies, car payments, and even gasoline. Americans with such low incomes cannot last long without being compensated.

Trump is an embarrassment to our nation and a disgrace to the human race.
