For years local Republicans were aware that elections in their communities could change America into a more conservative nation. Democrats have finally learned that if they want to reach the people they represent, they must begin by winning local, county, and state elections.
In 2017 and 2018 Democrats experienced victories in numbers which inspired them. They are now more dedicated to winning elections which can affect taxes, zoning, licenses, and other areas of importance to millions of Americans in smaller towns and cities across America.
For instance, in red states where Republican governors and state legislators continue to harass and demean the LGBTQ community, small towns with local governments which are more liberal make efforts to attract this demographic.
While state leaders make decisions based on bigotry and prejudice, which encourage their state’s residents to leave, small towns, and smaller cities can be attractive and the effect can be seen in the growth of their economies.
If Democrats truly want to be the ‘people’s party,’ they must represent them at their very foundation. Television dominates general elections, but in local elections face to face meetings often influence the outcome.
