Trump claims that he cares about border security; that’s a blatant lie. This whole shutdown is a scam. It is nothing more than a pitiful effort to partially appease his deplorable supporters. (Mexico is not paying for the ‘wall’).
Prior to Trump’s shutdown a bipartisan agreement was completed which would have kept the government open until February 8th. Included in the proposal was an increase of $1.6 billion to bolster border security. Trump had agreed to sign it until right-wing extremists criticized him for not having the courage to keep his promise and build the wall.
Regardless of how Republicans attempt to spin the truth, Trump owns this shutdown; it is his and his alone.
Once again, here are the facts. Immigration reform is very complicated and a wall will not solve any of the problems. Someone must inform Trump and his extremist friends that this is the 21st century and a wall is ludicrous. Video surveillance combined with the use of drones and satellite infrared detection would be far more effective. A wall will not address the nearly 12 million men, women, and children who have lived in America for decades and contribute to our society. It will not address more than 50 percent of all illegal residents who arrive in America legally and simply never leave. They obtain ‘visitor’s visas,’ travel on commercial aircraft and simply disappear when their visas expire.
I, and millions of other Americans demand that congress become serious about this problem. A solution can only be found if deliberation and compromise by both parties becomes the norm once again.
Congress cannot surrender to president ‘dumbass.’ Trump is ‘dumbing-down’ America. Intelligent thought and common sense have been replaced by chosen ignorance. A lack of morals and support for white nationalism are moving our nation backwards into its dark past.
Republicans are incapable of governing all 320 million Americans, and they don’t want to. Time for these old, white men to retire; let’s help them on November 3, 2020.
