In what is likely an homage to the demands of Vladimir Putin, Trump has decided to remove all of our nation’s approximately 2,000 troops from Syria. Prior to his apparently unilateral decision, Trump indicated that he was considering this in a tweet.
“We have defeated ISIS in Syria, my only reason for being there during the Trump Presidency,” he said.
The Washington Examiner, usually a right-wing supporting publication, printed the following headline.
“Trump, Syria, and a ludicrous holiday gift to America’s enemies”
The article, an op-ed by Tom Rogan, began: “The Islamic State has not been defeated in Syria. But even if it had been, the durable defeat of that terrorist organization requires a continuing American military presence in Syria. Let’s be clear, President Trump’s pledge on Wednesday to withdraw all U.S. forces from Syria is a great gift to Syrian President Bashar Assad, Iran, Russia, and ISIS 2.0.’
Republican Senator from South Carolina, Lindsey Graham, had this to say.
“Withdrawal of this small American force in Syria would be a huge Obama-like mistake.”
I am proud to be a pacifist, and Graham is a hawk. However, I fail to understand the timing of this decision, and am disappointed that he did not consult others before making another hasty and controversial decision.
Graham added, “An American withdrawal at this time would be a big win for ISIS, Iran, Bashar al Assad of Syria, and Russia. I fear it will lead to devastating consequences for our nation, the region, and throughout the world.”
A comment almost identical to that of Mr. Rogan’s.
Think about this. Today it was reported that Trump hates the White House Christmas parties he is obligated to attend. His reported reasons are that they are ‘not about him,’ and that they are too long. He prefers sitting in front of a television and gobbling Kentucky Fried Chicken or cheeseburgers.
This is how Trump acts as your illegitimate president. He is in a hurry to make decisions which should be discussed for a far lengthier amount of time. This is why the American taxpayers pay for the salaries of the cabinet and other close advisers.
“President Dumb Dumb.”
