The Republican Congress is too busy Defending Trump and Taking Vacations to do Anything

capitol (1)

Twenty five years ago, Republicans believed in smaller government. Today’s Republicans in name only want to control everyone’s lives, and continue to escalate their wars on women, minorities and the poor, (a la Paul Ryan).

I believe that we need less government; less members in the House and the Senate. They do little, and spend less time in Washington than Trump spends behind the Resolute Desk. If we had only one Senator from each state, and one-half of the number of Representatives, we would save more than $47,000,000 each year. As of today, paying these lazy and worthless politicians is the biggest waste in government.

The attached article is factual, but also meaningless. It claims that because Lyin Paul Ryan announced his retirement from the House little will be done before the midterm election in November. That is not a valid excuse for wasting six months of their bloated paychecks which is more than that 47 million dollar number I offered previously.

Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan have proven themselves to be incapable of leading their party or our nation. In 14 months and 22 days the Republican-controlled congress has accomplished one thing, and one thing only, and it will damage the majority of the American people. Republicans and Democrats are fully aware of the fact that this hasty and partisan tax reform bill is a gift to Trump and other wealthy Americans; will harm the working class; will increase the number of Americans living in poverty; and will result in an increase in the deficit of at least $1.9 trillion. If this is a success, I do not want to see a failure.

Some final facts you should know. The 535 members of the House and Senate receive a base salary of $174,000 per year. This does not include healthcare or retirement benefits. It also excludes bonuses for leading committees or bonus pay for being the Speaker of the House or the Senate Majority Leader. However, their tax returns reveal million dollar a year incomes. Really? They are required to spend 100 hours a month and 100 days each year in Washington. Most of that time is spent campaigning or fund raising. This is what taxpayers receive from their elected officials for a total of nearly $100,000,000 each year. We can do better.

Let’s begin by ridding our nation of the party of ‘spend more without increasing revenue;’ Republicans. We can do that on November 6th.
