If you read my rants, you know that I believe that Mitch McConnell will be remembered as the worst Senate Majority Leader in history. He is the reason why our government is dysfunctional. He is the man who proclaimed to the American people in January of 2009 that ‘Republicans would do nothing as long as President Barrack Obama remained in office.’ He kept that promise; a promise based on racism and a belief in a single tactic; obstructionism. This is why he is unable to lead today; he has forgotten how to govern.
Today he is ignoring the will of the American people and attempting to push Trumpcare through the senate; a bill which would repeal Obamacare and murder thousands of Americans each year. McConnell is too old, too arrogant, and too white to remain in the senate.
“Every Republican senator has been elected or reelected on repealing Obamacare. And he’s a guy who wants to win,” one McConnell insider said.
This is completely false. The people of McConnell’s home state, Kentucky, will lose their healthcare, and a national poll confirms that most Americans want to keep and repair Obamacare, and that Trumpcare is unacceptable.
McConnell is destroying both the integrity and the functionality of the senate. He is in opposition to his own words prior to becoming the majority leader.
The senate should not be “an assembly line for one party’s partisan legislative agenda.”
Our government has never been more partisan. Republicans control two branches of government, and they have proven that they are unable to govern effectively. They have also proven once and for all that they are the party of special interests; have no interest in representing the American people; and will bow to Trump’s fascist proposals without questioning his anti-American agenda.
“When the Senate is allowed to work the way it was designed to, it arrives at a result that’s acceptable to people all along the political spectrum,” McConnell argued in a major 2014 speech. But if it is used as “an assembly line for one party’s partisan legislative agenda,” then the consequence would be “instability and strife” rather than “good, stable law.”
Our government was intended to be a ‘democratic republic;’ it is not today. Government has become an oligarchy, moving towards a plutocracy. The two words which made our government effective; deliberation and compromise; no longer exist, and it is McConnell who is responsible for failing the American people.
Partisan politics will cause the demise of democracy once and for all. When one party places its future ahead of the American people, our nation has lost its way. The people are the country; government works for us or must be replaced if it fails the people. Once again, let me offer the words of Abraham Lincoln.
“This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or exercise their revolutionary right to overthrow it.”
Please re-post; thank you.
