Today’s Republican Party wants to control everything in your life. In addition, it is willing to throw away tax dollars on ‘pet’ projects, offer huge tax breaks for the super wealthy, and at the same time reduce social programs for the majority. In other words, the Grand Old Party is non-existent.
For more than eight years Republicans, led by Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, and Lyin Paul Ryan have accomplished nothing. They refuse to deliberate or even include Democrats in their discussions, and compromise has become a ‘mortal sin.’ Meanwhile they support special interests, and invade our right to privacy and personal choice.
Within the last week, Trump began to violate the fourth amendment by setting up a voter fraud panel which asked personal questions from voter registration in all 50 states. This information is more invasive than anything I have ever seen from the federal government without cause.
The Republican dominated House has a new idea. It revealed a growing homophobia. This time it’s not about same-sex marriage, it’s just about sex.
Vicky Hartzler is a Republican Representative from Missouri. She wants to reverse another of President Obama’s executive orders. Under the directive today, military personnel who qualify are allowed to undergo transgender surgery. She says that it is ‘a waste of money and should be rescinded.’ Republicans will consider adding an amendment to their military budget request which now stands at $696 billion; $30 billion more than requested by Trump.
Nancy Pelosi’s response was vehement and accusatory. “This cowardly Republican amendment targeting transgender men and women in uniform effectively bans these patriotic Americans from serving their country,” the California Democrat said. Of course Hartzler is in denial. The Republican ‘war on the LGBTQ community’ continues.
Republicans no longer stand for freedom. By supporting the Christian religious right, they have become participants in a cult where everyone must obey their leaders without question. This is not the Republican Party I once respected and frequently selected candidates who I believed were intelligent, compassionate, and principled.
