In 2015 there were 372 mass shootings in America. In 2016, the number rose to 477. So far in 2017, there have been 238, indicating that this year will match last year’s total. This only happens in the United States; no other nation in the world can expect to have more mass shootings than days in the year.
Gun violence in America can be decreased very easily, but Republicans don’t care about public safety; they care about the money they receive from the gun lobby, the NRA.
There are several steps which would greatly reduce gun violence and these inexcusable mass shootings; you know what they are. However there are two groups supported by Republicans who should never be allowed to legally purchase a weapon of mass destruction; mentally ill Americans, and individuals who are on the ‘no-fly’ list of Homeland Security.
You might remember Adam Lanza and James Holmes. Both young men were mentally incapacitated.
Lanza slaughtered 20 school children at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut. He also murdered six educators and his mother.
Holmes randomly shot moviegoers in Aurora, Colorado as they watched “The Dark Knight Rises.” He killed 12, and injured 70 innocent men and women.
It makes no sense that an individual who is considered too dangerous to be allowed to fly on commercial aircraft should be allowed to purchase an assault rifle from their local gun store. Every Republican politician should be ashamed of themselves for choosing to support the NRA lobby and not the American people.
Today another mass shooting occurred near Birmingham, Alabama. Three adults were shot to death in a mobile home park. Police believe that it was the result of a domestic dispute, and that the suspected killer is on the run, possibly back to his home in Florida.
Every year more than 33,000 Americans lose their lives at the hands of individuals who shoot them with a gun. This a statistic unique to America, and can easily be remedied.
Our nation has become far more violent since June of 2015. Is it a coincidence that this is the same month when Donald Trump declared his candidacy, and began his rallies where he preached hatred and violence?
Please re-post; thank you.
