There is no excuse for ignorance. Personally I prefer logic, shunning emotions in favor understanding, and the use of common sense. Therefore, I lack the ability to understand men and women who hate others based upon the color of their skin, their religious preference, or their sexual orientation. These good men and women have little or no effect on my life; they are simply attempting to support themselves and their families, and be treated equally and justly in American society.
I am not alone in these beliefs, and the entire state of California has offered its support for one of these groups by ‘hitting some states where it hurts;’ their wallets.
On Thursday, California State Attorney General Xavier Becerra banned all state funded travel to Texas, Alabama, South Dakota and Kentucky because of anti-LGBTQ legislation passed after the inauguration of Donald Trump.
Taxpayer money “will not be used to let people travel to states who chose to discriminate,” Becerra said, according to the Associated Press.
Admittedly this will not result in grievous harm to the economy of those states, but it is a statement. The American people will fight ignorance and bigotry wherever it exists. I also ask ‘why would anyone want to travel to those states anyway?’ Alabama and Texas have been awarded the prize for being the most racist states in the union; numbers one and two in that order; (sorry Texas, I know you are trying harder). As for South Dakota and Kentucky, they have nothing to offer economically or for the average tourist.
These same states have attempted to pass voting laws which are intended to restrict the voting rights of African Americans and Hispanics.
As the old white men and women die off and are replaced by new generations, racism and bigotry will also begin to die in America. When the old white men who control Washington get their a**es out of congress, America will rise from its current shame and become a respected nation once again. These obstructionists ignore every poll which reveals the needs and desires of the majority of the American people. Nearly 60 percent of Americans support same-sex marriage. Because the Republican Party has chosen to violate the first amendment and allow the Christian religious right to influence its policies, they denounce the LGBTQ community. If you are not wealthy and white, don’t expect the Republican Party to represent you.
Will you decide that ignorance is acceptable? Will you refuse to vote for a Republican in 2018 or be an intelligent member of American society? Be an independent; it’s liberating!
Please re-post; thank you.
