Back Only a Few Days, Congress Questions Trump’s “Deal” with Saudi Arabia

Trump (4)

On his first stop of an ‘all too short’ nine day trip abroad, Trump’s first stop was in Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Royal Family played him for what he is; a fool. They played to his ego, and gave him a reception which was previously offered only to royalty. They wanted something from him, and they got it; maybe.

Trump signed an arms deal which will cost them $350 billion overall, and a sale of $110 billion immediately. Saudi Arabia is invading neighboring Yemen and the Shia Houthi militias. America would be supporting one side of what is basically a civil war.

In December, President Obama rescinded a similar deal because which was “a planned sale of PGMs due to concerns over widespread civilian casualties in Yemen and significant deficiencies in RSAF’s [Saudi Air Force] targeting capabilities.”

Concerns over the sale of “Precision Guided Munitions” were further addressed in a letter.

This decision was the result of an internal review launched after the United Nations and a number of human rights organizations documented a series of RSAF airstrikes on civilian targets including hospitals, markets, schools and a large funeral,” the letter stated.

Once again Trump made a rash decision without competent and qualified advisers.

Trump should be urging the Saudis to shift course by abiding by the laws of war and holding those responsible for past abuses to account. Instead he will effectively be telling them to continue as before and not to worry – the flow of US weapons will not stop,” Kristine Beckerle of Human Rights Watch, said.

Continued US arms sales to a country that has repeatedly violated the laws of war exposes US officials to legal liability for aiding and abetting coalition war crimes,” she noted.

Others believe that Saudi Arabia is arming itself in preparation for a possible war with Iran.

Senators Chris Murphy, Al Franken, and Rand Paul introduced a resolution to renege on Trump’s ‘deal,’ using a section of the Arms Export Control Act.

In the House, a similar proposal was introduced to control all air to ground munitions sales to Saudi Arabia.

Trump continues to take autocratic actions which are voided by federal judges or congress. He is completely unaware of how to effectively govern. His inability to consider the consequence of his actions is extremely dangerous for America and world peace.

America; the entire world; cannot afford to allow Trump to remain in office. He lacks the intelligence, temperament, and any qualifications which allow him to govern the United States of America.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel described the serious problems with a Trump presidency after the NATO meetings, and the G-7 Summit. She said that Europe could no longer trust the United States while Trump remains in power.

Let’s all help Trump and his hypocritical party retire; he’s too old and out of touch to be our president, and Republicans do not represent the majority. Vote for Independents and Democrats in November of 2018.
