In December of 2016, Carrier, the heating and air conditioning company, decided not to move a large number of it jobs from its Indianapolis furnace factory to Mexico. Trump, who had just been elected in November, toured the plant with the state’s previous Governor Mike Pence. He made a speech, bragging that he had saved 1,100 jobs. He lied; no surprise there.
Carrier had never planned to send 300 of those jobs to Mexico, and only 800 had been “saved.”
Although Trump and Pence had little to do with Carrier’s decisions, Trump took credit for the situation, much as he has claimed that events begun under the Bush and Obama administrations were his ‘accomplishments.’
Now for the bad news. Carrier plans to layoff 600 employees; 290 of which will occur just before Christmas.
When at Carrier in December, Trump said: “that big, big beautiful plant behind us… will be even more beautiful in about seven months from now. They’re so happy. They’re going to have a great Christmas. That’s most important.”
Trump wasn’t finished touting his “victory.”
Trump said: “that big, big beautiful plant behind us… will be even more beautiful in about seven months from now. They’re so happy. They’re going to have a great Christmas. That’s most important. And by the way, that number is going to go up very substantially as they expand this area, this plant. So the 1,100 is going to be a minimum number,” he said.
It must be frustrating to be a man who is always wrong, and continues to lose.
A percentage of the jobs lost are the result of automation.
I would prefer that Trump continue to ‘do-nothing.’ Every time he tries anything, he either fails, or destroys something created by caring presidents in our past. His policy of ‘helter skelter’ is not working, and it never will. Good, or even adequate government succeeds when several stages of planning, serious bipartisan deliberation, and compromise are involved. Trump trusts no one but himself, and fails to learn from his many mistakes.
The only jobs Trump is indirectly creating are Secret Service jobs. As Trump’s spawn travels on business or pleasure, added protection by the Secret Service is required, costing taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars with every excursion.
Trump is an incompetent man, whether we are discussing business or governing. He must be removed from office to save our nation.
