On Thursday, just one day before Trump was to leave on a nine-day trip to Saudi Arabia, Israel, Rome, Brussels, and Sicily, he addressed the press. With his presidency in turmoil and unraveling with every passing day, he said: “I hate to see anything that divides.” The most divisive president in history is desperate to save his presidency and his reputation. He once again denied the fact that he was complicit with the Russians and Vladimir Putin during the 2016 campaign. Then he began acting like Donald Trump.
He bashed his adversaries, which he likes to call ‘enemies.’ He returned to criticizing how Hillary Clinton ran her campaign. And of course he had to denounce anyone who doesn’t love Trumpcare, or fails to believe in his wall.
This is Trump, and he cannot and will not improve with time. He is a dirty old man who is committed to his beliefs and ignores all advice from others. Trump continues to pander to his supporters. His ego prevents him from speaking to the concerns of his detractors, proving that his goal is not unity, but remaking America into his own despicable view.
While Trump’s away, the investigation into his Russian connection escalates. New discoveries reveal cover-ups by Republican leadership. Mitch McConnell, and Lyin Paul Ryan knew about Russian interference last summer, and instructed their constituents to keep it a secret. Mike Pence, who was charged with vetting Michael Flynn was aware of his crimes but approved of his appointment without hesitation.
Fired FBI Director, James Comey, is scheduled to testify this week. He told reporters that Trump’s request that he halt the investigation into Flynn’s illegal actions was an attempt to obstruct justice.
I continue to question Trump’s acuity. His inability to control his temper, and his need to satisfy his enormous ego clearly offer signs of being mentally challenged. “I’m not a psychologist, but there’s something strange going on with Mr. Trump,” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said during a CNN town hall on Tuesday night. If you remember Trump’s vile rallies, his displays of anger and hatred, and his encouragement of his supporters to take violent actions against his critics, you would call those words and actions “crazy,” not “unusual,” as described by the television media.
Yesterday Trump met with the Saudi royal family in Riyadh. Aware of Trump’s approval of those who lavish attention on him, they gave Trump a reception fit for a king, not for a president. We will not know all of the contents agreed to by Trump and King Salman until congress has an opportunity to review the documents, but I have no doubt that they received everything they wanted from the man whose ego they boosted.
Trump’s intelligence and mental abilities appear to be in decline. His attention span is nearly non-existent. White House sources report that they took extraordinary actions to insure that Trump would read his daily briefings while traveling. They were careful to insert his name frequently throughout the documents which always encourages him to ‘read on.’
Since the Electoral College gifted him the election last November, his decisions have been questioned. His choices for a cabinet, and his closest advisers had zero qualifications for their positions. He selected white supremacists, Islamophobes, Homophobes and misogynists to lead our nation.
On the rare occasions when Trump is present in the White House, he is reported to watch cable television four to six hours a day; believing everything he hears on FOX Noise. Are these the actions of a man who has retained all of his acuity, or are these mistakes made by a man whose mental abilities are in decline?
Watch and listen to him closely, and decide for yourself.
