When the extremist right wing Senator from Iowa, Joni Ernst was asked about an amendment to the Constitution banning same-sex marriage, this was her response.
“If it would come up at the federal level, I would support it,” she said.
Ernst joins Mike Pence in their religious extremism and rejection of the 14th amendment. These two Republicans in name only, only support the sections of the Constitution which support their personal and antiquated beliefs.
“All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”
Let’s be perfectly clear. Ernst and Pence are hiding behind their faux-Christian beliefs. They support the Christian religious right because they receive donations and votes for reelection of Republicans. They do not believe in the actual teachings of Jesus Christ.
While Pence was the Governor of Indiana, he was first to sign anti-gay laws. He allowed businesses to deny their goods and services to same-sex couples based upon their “religious beliefs.” The measure was later rescinded after millions of dollars in lost revenue harmed the state’s finances. Therefore, it is no surprise that Pence has agreed to attend Ernst’s “Roast and Ride” on June 3rd. Bigots must stick together.
The two also share a belief in misogyny. Ernst has voted in opposition to every bill which would have protected women, and insured that they received complete equality in the workplace. Pence has voiced his opposition to equal pay for equal work.
I am old enough to remember when the GOP was well-respected, and an important component within our government. For more than 20 years they have moved so far to the right that they have failed to pass a single positive piece of legislation which would have affected the American people. In fact, Republicans accomplished absolutely nothing for all eight years of the Obama Administration.
The Republican Party is non-existent today. These hypocrites are simply using the name “Republican.” They support special interests, not the American people. They hide behind euphemisms to convince their supporters that they are concerned about the working class. They are not.
Pence and Ernst are perfect examples of the extremes our government has accepted as normal.
When a single religion gained control of the GOP, in direct violation of the first amendment, democracy faced an enormous challenge. We are losing our freedoms because Republicans support special interests. This is what Pence and Ernst stand for.
I am an original baby boomer. I am also an agnostic. I reject all organized religion, considering them nothing more than ‘cults.’ For 70+ years I have witnessed the suffering of the poorest human beings around the world. Meanwhile, the wealthy experience lifestyles which are unnecessary and extravagant beyond the understanding of normal men and women. I doubt that a god exists; he or she would not allow the most devout men, women, and children to suffer in unforgivable ways.
Religions are responsible for the greatest atrocities in the history of the world; this is not me.
