If I walked down the street today and asked ten people of various ages ‘ who is the Senate Majority Leader,’ I would be surprised if two of them could answer my question. I’m certain that most Americans have no understanding of the importance of that position in our government.
The answer is Mitch McConnell.
McConnell has been a Republican Senator from Kentucky since 1985. He became the Senate Majority Leader in 2014. He is in his sixth term as a United States Senator.
McConnell is the poster boy for those of us who believe that term limits in congress must be established. It works for the presidency, and it would prevent today’s situation where our government is entirely dysfunctional. There is no reason to take pride in six, six-year-terms as a senator. Longevity creates arrogance and removes the intent of serving the people. McConnell is the epitome of that fact.
McConnell is a “party first” politician. Elections and therefore power for Republicans is his only purpose. As a legislator, he has constantly voted against the majority, and for the one-percent. His record proves that he is a white supremacist, an Islamophobe, and a misogynist.
As the Senate Minority Leader in 2009, he announced to the American people that his party, the GOP, would do nothing in the coming four years, with the exception of insuring that President Barrack Obama would be a one-term president. Failure number one.
During the 2016 campaign, McConnell was a very vocal critic of Donald Trump. However, after the Electoral College gifted Trump the presidency in November of 2016, he moved his position 180 degrees, and now bows to the illegitimate president’s every demand.
During President Obama’s final year in office, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died suddenly. The President nominated the Chief Justice of the Appellate Court, Merrick Garland, to replace Scalia; his qualifications are unquestioned. McConnell refused to hold hearings for Judge Garland, which was action taken purely for political reasons, and nothing else. When Trump nominated Neil Gorsuch for the vacant seat on the Court, McConnell anticipated a filibuster by Democrats. To insure that did not occur, he and his hypocritical cronies changed the long-standing law, and removed the filibuster. Once again, an act which damaged democracy, but supported his party.
Although there is a preponderance of circumstantial evidence that Trump and his campaign staff colluded with Russian President Vladimir Putin during the campaign, McConnell has refused to admit the facts. The truth is that he was aware of the fact that Russia had been hacking computers from Democratic officials long before election day. He threatened to deny the facts if they were released to the American electorate, claiming that it was purely political. I can’t make this s**t up.
Trump has been desperate to keep a single campaign promise. He ordered Paul Ryan, now known as ‘Lyin Ryan,’ to hastily prepare a healthcare bill to replace Obamacare. Ignoring the wishes of the American people, who believe that Obamacare should be preserved and repaired, by a margin of 68% to 32%, Trumpcare was created in less than two months.
Analysis of Trumpcare revealed that more than 24 million Americans would lose their healthcare. Premiums for older Americans would be increased by 500 to 700 percent. Coverage would not be available for 131 million Americans who have preexisting conditions including diabetes and pregnancy. Ryan and Trump were unable to secure the votes from the Republican controlled House necessary to pass this piece of trash. It never came to a vote.
Round two began about a week ago. A new version, denounced by every healthcare agency in the United States, including the American Medical Association, was passed in the House by the narrowest of margins. Hypocritical Republicans joined Trump in front of the cameras celebrating their dubious ‘victory.’ They cheered the fact that if their bill passed the Senate, thousands of Americans would die each year; unable to secure healthcare.
A couple of days ago, FBI Director James Comey was informed that he had been summarily fired by Trump. He was not informed by the illegitimate president himself, he learned of the fact on television while giving a speech in Los Angeles. Every intelligent person in both government and the populace knew that this was a desperate attempt to protect the truth about Trump and Putin. Democrats in Congress are demanding that a special prosecutor be appointed who has no political ties.
So what is McConnell doing about these two situations? I don’t think that you’ll be surprised now that you know more about the traitor.
As for Trumpcare, he has promised his master that he will push it through the Senate with few changes. He has also claimed that a special prosecutor would be a “waste of time.” The latter is once more political, and an attempt to keep the truth from the American people.
The facts are, that thanks to McConnell, Lyin Ryan, and former Speaker, John Boehner, Republicans have not accomplished a single positive action for the American people in more than eight years. They are so far to the right, they have lost all ability to govern effectively.
If McConnell and Ryan are the best the GOP can do in offering “leadership,” the Republican Party of the past will never return to our nation’s government. It exists in name only. Today’s GOP has no principles and no ideas for the betterment of our nation.
I beg Republican voters; please cease your habit of voting for anyone who has an “R” next to his or her name. Look what you have done to our nation, and more importantly to your family and friends. Vote for qualified men and women who will serve the American people, not rule over them.
