Guns, Domestic Violence, and Apathy Define American Politics

Nearly 50 American women are shot to death by former or current partners each month – more than one a day, according to national police department statistics.”

Today’s ‘Republicans in name only’ have very ‘screwed up’ priorities. By supporting the demands of lobbyists their focus has absolutely nothing to do with the needs and wishes of the American people.

Since March of 2010, House Republicans wasted taxpayer time and money by voting more than 60 times to repeal Obamacare. An even bigger failure occurred when an ignorant president attempted to rush through congress a bill to “repeal and replace” the Affordable Care Act. The next step by our Republican controlled government is to pass additional tax breaks for the wealthy. Then they will face budget approval, in which they plan to increase an already bloated defense budget; allowing the Pentagon to waste billions of dollars of taxpayer money which should be used for the people of our nation. These are the priorities of a failed and incompetent political party.

I am extremely upset that the American media has become so cowardly. I am not surprised that the Republican Party ignores facts in support of their owners; the NRA, the Christian religious right, and the one-percent, but the fourth estate once offered the truth and was not concerned with ‘entertainment.’

The two greatest dangers to the American people are unrestricted gun sales, and domestic violence. Violent crime in America is on the rise and the primary cause is increased violence against women. In 2016 America stood alone as the only nation in the entire world that experienced more mass shootings than days on the calendar. Why aren’t these the front page stories on every major newspaper, and the feature stories on television “news?”

One in four women will be a victim of domestic violence. More than 33,000 Americans lose their lives from the use of a gun annually; most are women and children. Hate crimes are more frequent since Trump’s election last November. These are undeniable facts unless you are a Republican politician; they simply don’t exist. Their concerns are not related in any manner to the people of the United States.

Republican leaders have rejected every piece of legislation which would protect the majority from gun violence. They support selling these weapons of mass destruction to mentally challenged Americans, and to those who the FBI have placed on a “no-fly” list based on suspicion of terrorist activity. Not a single Republican politician has taken a stand to make punishment for domestic violence more severe. None of them have recognized domestic violence as the most serious problem facing America today. If you wonder why, the answer is obvious and very unsettling. The largest number of domestic violence victims are low-income minorities.

The GOP is the party of racism and bigotry, and they now have a leader who is soiling the White House. Nearly every member of Trump’s circle of sinners has proven him or herself to be a white supremacist. Trump has returned our nation to the times before the civil rights movement. During his campaign he encouraged his supporters to harbor anger and hatred which resulted in violence. The increase in hate crimes aimed at Muslims, Jews, blacks, Hispanics, the LGBT community, and women are directly attributable to Trump’s hate speech.

If you vote for candidates simply because they have an “R” next to their name on the ballot, you are a damned fool. You are voting to support the one-percent, and voting against yourself and your family. You are supporting your neighbor who beats his wife and children on a daily basis. You are supporting the deranged man who murders innocent men and women who are watching a movie at their local theater. Your are supporting hate-filled individuals who burn mosques and black churches. You are the problem; not the solution.

We can bring back the principles of our founding fathers; we can vote. November of 2018 is coming soon. Take your country back.
