For more than 20 years Republicans in congress have ignored the polls, and therefore the wishes and needs of the majority. They are the party of the ‘one-percent’ and lack any concern for the voters they were elected to represent. GOP politicians have made fools of their supporters for years by making false promises and blaming Democrats for their failings.
Thanks to Mitch McConnell, and those who support his traitorous actions, our government is dysfunctional. Collusion between Republicans and lobbyists have destroyed our Democratic Republic. Deliberation and compromise are dead in Washington.
The sad truth is that the American people have no representation in the daily activities of the three branches of government.
Republicans have decided to represent every lobby, and every demand by everyone other than those of their constituents. If you doubt this, take a close look at the events in recent town hall meetings, and at the offices of Republican politicians; they still refuse to listen. For GOP politicians, the NRA, the Christian religious right, big oil, the pharmaceutical companies, the insurance industry, Wall Street, major corporations who are the greatest danger to the future of the planet, and others decide legislation in Washington.
Yesterday Trump signed a bill in hiding. His boastful approach to legislation was obscured as he placed his signature on a bill which would allow states to deny federal funding for any agency which provides abortions. This was a very thinly disguised effort to harm Planned Parenthood.
Many states, including the most ‘evangelical’ state in the Union, Iowa, have already voiced their opposition to harming an agency which receives minimal federal funding but has assisted low-income and impoverished women for decades.
The latest Gallup poll shows that 59 percent of Americans support Planned Parenthood. Only Republican politicians and religious extremists oppose the organization. But the GOP refuses to listen to the people.
55 percent of Americans support same-sex marriage, but Republican politicians align themselves with the Christian religious right lobby and continue to reject the beliefs of most Americans.
88 percent of Americans support immigration reform which offers a path to citizenship. But GOP lawmakers would like you to believe otherwise.
Approximately 40 percent of Americans believe that equal pay for women in the workplace is the number one issue facing the working class; Republicans ignore the truth.
74 percent of Americans believe that Trump should produce his tax returns; they have a right to know if their illegitimate president is a crook. Republicans support Trump’s secrecy.
Who will serve and support the American people? Here’s a clue; their party’s symbol is not an elephant.
This is our country. If our government is not working for us we have the right and the responsibility to replace it with one which represents us. Think about November of 2018.
