Mitch McConnell Willing to Destroy the Senate’s Credibility to Place his Party Ahead of the American People

the Turtle

Mitch McConnell has already confirmed his place in history as the worst Senate Majority Leader ever to hold that position. The question now is ‘will he add to that evaluation?’

The hearings for Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch, have revealed that he would act in a similar manner as the man he would be replacing. Antonin Scalia was a right wing extremist and activist. Democrats have therefore decided to ‘filibuster’ his nomination, which forces a minimum of 60 Senators approval to place him on the Court.

McConnell has a single option, and it is a very unwise and devastating choice. The Senate would forever become a less respectable body of legislators. McConnell says that he will hold a vote to change the rule, which has lasted for decades. It is called the “nuclear option.”

Look at the Senate through the long history of the body, the practical effect of all this will be to take us back to where we were,” McConnell, 75, told reporters Tuesday.

An even older Republican Senator, John McCain disagrees with McConnell.

Idiot, whoever says that is a stupid idiot, who has not been here and seen what I’ve been through and how we were able to avoid that on several occasions,” McCain said Wednesday, recalling past efforts to defuse these judicial confirmation wars. “And they are stupid and they’ve deceived their voters because they are so stupid.”

McConnell is the primary reason why our government is dysfunctional. He led the ‘party of no’ and refused to do anything in the eight years of the Obama Administration; he kept his promise. His Republican Party failed to accomplish a single positive act for over eight years, but they have destroyed programs which served the majority.

McConnell can rightfully be labeled a ‘traitor.’ He has no interest in performing the job for which he was elected; his only concern is his party and winning elections. He is another old, white man who must be sent home to retire; hopefully near a Kentucky coal mine.
