How the Republican Party Stole the Supreme Court and Further Damaged Democracy

Let me begin by offering something the right wing hates; facts. For the last 20+ years Republicans have proven that they have no interest in serving the American people. They ignore the polls, and vote for their party’s best interests. Elections are their only priority. They are the party of ‘no’ and have failed to accomplish anything for more than eight years with the exception of destroying programs which positively affect the majority of the American people.

Republicans have also proven that they are unable to govern effectively. The ‘Trumpcare’ debacle was embarrassing for them and for our nation.

Fifteen months ago Mitch McConnell refused to hold hearings for President Obama’s nominee to replace Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court. He had no reason, he was simply hoping for a Republican win in November and place an extremist on the bench. Merrick Garland was a moderate who holds the position of Chief Justice of the Appellate Court. Many Republicans admitted that he was an extremely qualified judge and well respected by both parties. However, traitor and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell once again placed his party first, and said ‘to hell with the people.’ His goal was to politicize the Supreme Court for decades in the future.

Today McConnell has unilaterally decided to eliminate the filibuster. This method has been available to the minority party for decades and was intended to support democracy in the Senate. From now on all decisions in the Senate will be decided by a simple majority; no longer will 60 votes be required in situations such as this.

Referring to the Merrick Garland situation: That name is the reason we are in this spot today,” Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said of Garland. “For the first time in the history of the Senate, for the first time ever, this Republican-led Senate refused to give this nominee a hearing and a vote. It had never, underline the word never, happened before.”

“It’s a sad day,” said Jennifer Lawless, a government professor and director of the Women and Politics Institute at American University. “The Senate was supposed to be better than this.”

McConnell is up for reelection in 2020; remember it. In the meantime, we can take away his power.

All 435 members of the House, and one-third of the Senate is up for reelection in the 2018 midterm election. Remove Republicans from office and save democracy; take your country back.

I beg you to re-post this; spread the word about Republican’s hatred for freedom and for the American people. If every eligible woman, and every eligible millennial votes in November of 2018, the people will win; I guarantee it.
