I have said it many times, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is the biggest traitor in America. He is the one man who stood before the cameras and told our nation’s people that he would not allow the Party of Destruction to do anything with the exception of insuring that President Obama was a one-term president early in 2009. He kept that promise; his party has not accomplished a single thing in over eight years. McConnell is the reason our government is dysfunctional.
President Obama nominated Merrick Garland for the Supreme Court seat which was vacated by the death of Antonin Scalia 15 months ago; McConnell refused to hold hearings for his confirmation. Judge Garland is a moderate, and one of the most qualified men ever to be selected as a Justice. He is presently the Chief Justice of the Appellate Court. But McConnell played politics and denied the President his appointment.
The “Turtle,” as McConnell became to be known, appeared on ‘Meet the Press’ Sunday. When moderator, Chuck Todd, asked him why he failed to hold hearings for Judge Garland, McConnell followed Republican tradition and lied. This was Todd’s response.
“That’s a rationale to vote against his confirmation,” Todd argued. “Why not put him up for a vote? Any senator can have a rationale to not to vote for a confirmation. Why not put Merrick Garland on the floor and if the rationale is, ‘You know what? Too close to an election,’ then vote no?”
McConnell laughed and said: “Look, we litigated that last year,” the Majority Leader stuttered. “The American people decided that they wanted Donald Trump to make the nomination, not Hillary Clinton.”
Of course we know that is a lie. The Electoral College elected Trump; Hillary received the people’s mandate by nearly three million votes.
McConnell made another false claim, stating that a Supreme Court vacancy is not filled in an election year. There is no precedent for his lie.
Todd refused to let him get away with his bulls**t. He once again asked him why no vote was allowed on Garland, and was he willing to make it a Senate rule that a vacant seat on the Supreme Court will never be filled in an election year?
“That’s an absurd question,” McConnell complained. “We were right in the middle of a presidential election year. Every body knew that either side — had the shoe been on the other foot — wouldn’t have filled it. But that has nothing to do with what we’re voting on this year.”
Actually it has a lot to do with this year. Trump’s presidency is in question, and he should not be allowed to nominate a Supreme Court Justice until the situation is resolved.
McConnell is one of the major hypocrites who failed to be principled and refuse to serve Trump. He denounced him until he was gifted the election. For McConnell, it’s always ‘party first,’ and screw the American people and the people of Kentucky. Personal gain is his only goal. He is another old, white supremacist who must be evicted from his office in the Senate.
