Unlike Donald Trump, I do not condone violence. I have been called a ‘pacifist,’ and I proudly wear that badge. No one wins when violence begins. Those who are in power when governments engage in war profit, while the people suffer loss and pain. When peaceful protests devolve into violence, the reason for those protests become diminished and forgotten.
That said, the facts are that when the people are repeatedly oppressed by their government, and their needs and wishes ignored, anger replaces clear thought and all too frequently violent action replaces clear thought.
Yesterday violence erupted in Paraguay. The Senate was holding a secret meeting in an office, rather than on the floor of the Capitol building. The purpose was to take a secret vote which would countermand federal law and allow President Horacio Cartes to run for another term, violating the law limiting term limits.
An angry crowd gathered outside of the office, protesting this secretive process. Hundreds of people broke into the Congressional building, ransacking files, and shattered computers and other office equipment. Then they set the building on fire.
The protesters claimed that their action was necessary to prevent a dictatorship.
“A coup has been carried out. We will resist and we invite the people to resist with us,” said Senator Desiree Masi from the opposition Progressive Democratic Party.
The War of Independence was a fight for democracy. Businessmen, laborers, and farmers took up arms to resist dictatorial action by the King of England. All over the world people demand freedom in the form democracy. The ‘Arab Spring’ began as a fight against autocracy. Whether it is Al Qaeda, ISIS, or Boko Haram, the goal of these terrorist groups is to remove democracy and establish a dictatorship; they do not represent the Prophet Muhammad and the Quran.
The United States of America is once again at war; a war to retain democracy. This time we are at war with our own government. Trump continues to ignore the Constitution and attempt to achieve his own goals; they are not related to serving the American people. His hypocritical party; the Party of Destruction; is concentrating its efforts on the elimination of all programs which positively affect the majority; created over the last 60 years. The American people must take the words of Abraham Lincoln seriously.
“This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or exercise their revolutionary right to overthrow it.”
There is no need for a bloody revolution. In November of 2018, the midterm elections will be held. All 435 members of the House are up for reelection, and one-third of the Senate. If the American people use the only weapon we have; our vote; and show up at the polls in record numbers, we can take back our country, and remove all power from Trump and his circle of sinners. WE can stop Trump’s efforts to destroy democracy in America.
Become an activist; join the revolution; vote every member of the Party of Destruction out of office.
