Against the wishes of millions of the American people, Trump is ready to approve the Dakota Access, and Keystone XL pipelines. Although there are issues which will adversely effect the rights of thousands of the American people, Trump has chosen to ignore his ‘subjects’ in favor of special interests and create additional danger to our nation and the planet.
The second story of interest is about FBI Director James Comey. It is not surprising that Trump has decided to retain his services. It was Comey who aided Trump’s election with his perfectly, and intentionally timed statement about Hillary Clinton’s e-mails.
The Standing Rock Sioux tribe and other native Americans have joined in protest against the project in North Dakota. They are claiming that it would endanger their water supply, and disturb sacred burial grounds and ancient artifacts.
Why should Trump care about native Americans? After all, they’re not really white, and they aren’t rich. By allowing the pipeline, his rich friends will be allowed to increase their wealth. His new Secretary of State will jump for joy and tweet hugs and kisses to Vladimir Putin.
President Obama, a real president, vetoed the Keystone XL pipeline. Its size and length, combined with the fact that it will carry ‘tar sands crude’ from Canada to the Gulf coast; a crude which is far more dangerous, and unable to be refined in the U.S., makes it a project which could greatly harm people, while increasing the profits of the oil and gas companies including the Koch brothers.
Of course Trump will approve this very dangerous project; members of the one-percent will receive additional wealth.
Neither of these actions was a complete surprise; Trump is toeing the party line of ‘profit before people.’
Least surprising was the decision to retain James Comey as the Director of the FBI. He is one of the three reasons Trump was gifted the election by the Electoral College. His announcement 11 days before the election, combined with media support which held Hillary to very high standards and Trump to extremely low standards, and proven interference by Russian President Vladimir Putin, are responsible for the mess we are in today.
Trump greeted Comey warmly at a White House reception on Sunday, shaking the FBI director’s hand, patting him on the back and remarking, “He’s become more famous than me.”
Welcome to the most corrupt administration in American history, and it’s only four days old. We can only expect actions which will be worse, and far more destructive to the lives of 320 million Americans.
