If your are a regular reader, you know that I am a “fanatic” about one thing in my life; the NFL. I am a devoted Pittsburgh Steeler fan, and support them win or lose. Sometimes I sit in my recliner and enjoy the artistry that is professional football, and sometimes I see things which raise my blood pressure.
For the first time in many years, NFL viewership has declined. The reason appears to be the extremely poor officiating. More than in any other professional sport, the NFL referees make decisions which cost teams victory. Just a few years ago I watched a “non-call” give a victory in the Super Bowl to the Baltimore Ravens over the San Francisco 49ers.
Today three games offered reasons why the NFL is beginning to decline in popularity.
One was the game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns. Although the Steelers won easily, the officiating was deplorable.
The other game when the officials changed the possible outcome of the game was between the New England Patriots and the San Francisco 49ers.
Patriot’s owner, Robert Kraft is Commissioner Roger Goodell’s biggest supporter, and the reason he makes an exorbitant salary of more than 40 million dollars each year. When Brady is sacked, the officials suddenly discover a penalty against the defense. If Brady is knocked down, the officials call a roughing the passer penalty. Brady is a wuss, and is constantly protected by Goodell’s officials.
The final joke is Rams’ head coach Jeff Fisher. He is a coward, and cost his team a victory today. He stared his rookie quarterback, Jared Goff. He was acceptable in his first game, and the Los Angeles Rams led 10-0 in the fourth quarter. Near the goal line, they were were in a fourth down situation with just a few minutes left in the game. Instead of attempting to gain a first down, which would have virtually ended the game, he brought in his field goal kicker who hit the goal post. The Rams lost the game because the coach had no faith in his team, and this will end their season. This type of betrayal by the coach will create an incurable disease for his team.
The season continues, but I advise you all to watch the games with the sound turned off. Today’s announcers are like the mainstream news media; they are entertainers who rely on assistants to tell them what happens in the games; they know nothing. They are merely entertainers who are overpaid, and under informed.
